This is how we celebrated our

30th Birthday

Back to Home

The format of the weekend will be familiar to regular dancers with the added attractions of
an hilarious hour with Sid Kipper, telling us how Morris is done (!?),
and a School Sports morning on the Sunday.

10 visiting teams were present when we celebrated this milestone, based at Morley Rugby Club between Leeds and Bradford. There were about 160 people altogether, many of them camping at the site. It was great to see so many friends at our own weekend.
Sid Kipper presented a wonderful evening’s entertainment on a Morris theme on Friday as a great starter to the weekend.
Saturday saw 3 buses go out into the wilds of the West Riding, beginning with a massed stand in the middle of Morley. One tour went to Temple Newsam, Stanley Ferry for lunch and Pugneys Water Park near Wakefield, the second to Cannon Hall near Barnsley, lunch at Grangemoor and the National Coal Mining Museum, and the third to Shibden Hall near Halifax, Hebden Bridge at lunchtime and Oakwell hall near Birstall. Also included was a pub visit at the end of each. Persephone managed to raise 2 complete teams & bands to go out on separate tours.
A great ceilidh featuring our own caller and band kept us on our toes until late into the night, and then it was up early on Sunday to take part in the school sports day before some more dancing outside our local pub at lunchtime.
All the hours of planning, scrubbing the showers & worrying about anything and everything melted away in the brilliant sunshine and the splendid company of the other teams to make the weekend a great success.
